Patricia Espinoza-Capetillo was born in Weslaco, Texas, and raised in Mercedes. She graduated from Mercedes High School in 1991. Her original intention was to major in English at the University of Texas-Pan American, but after the serious illness of a close family member, she realized that her purpose in life was in nursing. Her first introduction into the medical field was as a nursing assistant in 1996 at Knapp Medical Center in Pediatrics, a job that would inspire her to transform her dreams of pursuing her educational journey in pediatric nursing.

Patty began her nursing education in 1996 and graduated from the University of Texas at Brownsville with an Associate Degree in Nursing in May of 2000. She began her nursing career as a pediatric floor and charge nurse at Knapp Medical Center and concurrently ventured out into pediatric private duty nursing and pediatric home health nursing. She also worked as a flex nurse at Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance where she gained experience in the emergency room, medical, surgical, cardiac floors, and finally made her home in Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU)at Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance.

In 2009, she was accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at the University of Texas at Arlington and she completed this program and obtained her degree in 2011. The experiences she had while working in the Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric ICU made her realize that she wanted to play a bigger role in the care of the pediatric population in her community. In 2016 she decided to return to school once again to obtain her Master's of Science in Nursing and was accepted into the Family Nurse Practitioner Program through Walden University. Two years later she completed this program, obtained her Master's Degree, and passed her board exam in October of 2018.

Patty currently holds a Texas Registered Nurse license, an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license through the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. She is also certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board and has a Controlled Substance Registration Certification from the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration. Patty also has admitting privileges at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas. She also gratefully serves on the board of the Greater Gold Foundation, a non-profit organization created to be a platform and voice for Rio Grande Valley children and families battling a childhood cancer diagnosis.
